Domingo Miotti called up to Italy rugby squad

Rugby player Domingo Miotti has been called up to the Italian national team for the upcoming test match against South Africa in Turin. The Montpellier fly-half, who was born in San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, previously played for the Argentine national team, Los Pumas, most recently in July 2022.

Following World Rugby regulation 8, Miotti is eligible to represent Italy due to his paternal grandfather’s Italian ancestry. Italian head coach Gonzalo Quesada noted that discussions regarding this possibility began three years ago. Quesada stated that Miotti demonstrated great motivation in making the decision to represent Italy despite having the option to play for both nations.

Miotti is expected to rejoin training following a recent injury. His inclusion provides Italy with additional depth at the fly-half position alongside players such as Paolo Garbisi, Tommaso Allan, and Giacomo Da Re.
