Dominican Air Force Major José Espinosa killed in Santo Domingo Este shooting

Major José Aníbal Espinosa Valdés, 49, of the Dominican Air Force was shot during a dispute over a parked motorcycle in the Nuevo Amanecer sector of Santo Domingo Este. The altercation began when a driver attempted to move a motorcycle that blocked his vehicle, leading to a verbal clash that escalated into gunfire. Espinosa and his 20‑year‑old son Henry José Espinosa Fortuna were both hit; the son was wounded in the arm and the major later died after several days in hospital.

Police National spokesperson Colonel Diego Pesqueira said the alleged shooter, identified as Jorge Luis Montero Peña (aliases “Romito” and “El Pintor”), remains at large and is actively being sought. An associate, José Luis Bautista, alias “El Che”, who was in the Honda Civic used by the suspects, voluntarily surrendered to authorities and is being held. The vehicle has been seized as evidence. The investigation, conducted jointly by the Policía Nacional and the Ministerio Público, continues to determine the exact circumstances and to locate the primary perpetrator.
