Dominican Army training costs and curriculum revealed

The Dominican Army faces significant costs to train and equip new military conscripts. For the 2025 period, the Army estimated RD$144.9 million to cover the food and equipment needs of 1,037 conscripts. The investment for a single conscript during the approximately six-month training period reaches roughly RD$139,707, excluding salaries, health insurance, and other payroll components.

Major expenses per individual include RD$71,743 for field uniforms, RD$23,214 for gear, RD$20,320 for civilian clothing, RD$13,270 for sportswear, and RD$11,160 for food.

Beyond financial costs, the training program focuses on comprehensive skill development. Recruits undergo instruction in combat tactics, first aid, mountaineering, and map reading. The curriculum includes weapons training with various firearms, such as the M-16 A1, M1 rifle, M-60 and M-249 machine guns, 12-gauge shotguns, and .38 caliber revolvers, as well as 60mm mortars. Training also covers individual and squad tactics, as well as familiarity with tactical vehicles like the URO VAMTAC.
