Dominican artists petition to rename Palacio de Bellas Artes

Cultural and artistic figures in the Dominican Republic are launching a social media petition to rename the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo to ‘Palacio Franklin Domínguez de Bellas Artes’. The movement seeks to honor Franklin Domínguez (1931–2025), a central figure in Dominican theater and culture.

Domínguez was a prolific playwright, actor, director, journalist, and screenwriter with over 70 works spanning comedy, tragedy, satire, and opera. His career included numerous accolades, such as winning the Cristóbal De Llerena National Theater Prize more than ten times. He was also a member of the Dominican and Spanish Academies of Language and held a doctorate in Law and a degree in Philosophy.
