Dominican authorities seize 19.4 million pesos in illicit goods

Authorities in Santo Domingo have seized 119,708 units of illicit merchandise valued at approximately 19.4 million Dominican pesos during an operation in Villa Consuelo. The raid targeted a business owned by Chinese nationals.

The seized items included alcoholic beverages, premium cigarettes, sexual stimulants, and medications. Officials noted that the products lacked proper sanitary registration and featured irregular labeling, posing significant public health risks and facilitating tax evasion.

The operation was conducted by the Specialized Body for the Control of Fuels and Merchandise Trade (Ceccom), with support from the General Directorate of Medicines, Food and Sanitary Products (Digemaps) and the General Directorate of Migration (DGM). During the raid, five Haitian nationals with irregular migratory status were also detained and referred to migration inspectors.
