Santo Domingo Este authorities seize 46.9 million illegal medical units

Authorities in the Dominican Republic have dismantled a criminal network dedicated to the illegal storage and sale of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals in Santo Domingo Este. The operation, coordinated by the Mesa de Ilícitos and involving agencies such as the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM), the PGR, and Digemaps, resulted in the seizure of approximately 46.9 million units of goods.

The confiscated items, which include roughly 2,200 boxes, are estimated to have a market value of RD$531,993,450. The seizure included expired, counterfeit, and adulterated drugs without sanitary registration, as well as medical supplies such as gloves, masks, gowns, syringes, and bandages. The network utilized a two-story residence in the Los Tres Ojos sector for storage.

In a related development, the DNCD and Digemaps have launched the National Post-Marketing Surveillance Project for Medicines Containing Controlled Substances. This initiative aims to strengthen the monitoring of the entire supply chain, from import to final use, to protect public health and ensure product efficacy.
