Dominican banks praised by experts, public perception lags

A new study conducted by Villafañe together with the research firm Venka evaluated the reputation of the banking sector in the Dominican Republic. The survey gathered ratings from banking executives, highly informed stakeholders and the general public.

Banking executives assigned an average score of 8.25 out of 10, while the technically informed public gave a rating of 8.0. In contrast, the broader population of banked citizens rated the sector at 6.95, indicating a noticeable gap between internal performance perception and public awareness.

The report, the first scientific audit of banking reputation in the country, underscores the importance of intangible assets such as trust and legitimacy. It concludes that the sector's main challenge is not solvency but translating its economic contribution into a tangible perception among ordinary citizens.
