Dominican Communities Clash with EDEESTE Over Transformers and Receive New Units

In Sabana Grande de Boyá, Monte Plata, local athletes, community leaders and residents blocked an EDEESTE truck that attempted to remove transformers supplying power to a sports complex. Protesters set tyres ablaze and warned the company they would not allow the equipment to leave until the transformers were reinstated, prompting police intervention.

Meanwhile, in the El Pantano neighbourhood of Santo Domingo, the district mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello and social manager Bleydis Pérez delivered two new transformers, a move that will improve electricity service for roughly 900 families who have endured frequent blackouts. Community leader Oneida Isabel López said, "Le dijimos al alcalde que esta era una necesidad prioritaria y hoy ya tenemos una respuesta," highlighting the impact of the installation.

Both incidents underscore ongoing tensions over reliable electricity provision and the role of local authorities in addressing infrastructure gaps.
