Dominican Consulate Helps 24,000 Nationals Regularize Status in Spain
The Dominican Consulate General in Madrid organized a free assistance program that enabled roughly 24,000 Dominican citizens to apply for Spain’s extraordinary regularization of foreign residents. Consul General José Marte Piantini said the consulate offered informational sessions, personalized aid and hired immigration lawyers to guide applicants through the process, which required proof of continuous residence, valid identity documents and evidence of work, family or social ties.
The outreach extended beyond the Madrid office to other Spanish cities with sizable Dominican communities. The consulate acknowledged the support of the Fundación Bernarda Jiménez, Pedro Álvarez and President Luis Abinader. The program concluded according to the schedule set by Spanish authorities, allowing thousands to advance toward regularized legal status.
