Dominican cooperatives celebrate National Cooperativism Day

Various Dominican cooperatives are marking National Cooperativism Day, observed on October 25, by highlighting their social and economic contributions to the country.

Coopnama, the National Multiple Services Cooperative for Teachers, emphasized its role in supporting the Dominican teaching profession through financing, scholarships, housing projects, and solidarity aid. Santiago Portes, director of Coopnama, noted that the cooperative model serves as a vital tool for addressing the needs of vulnerable social sectors through collective solutions.

In Salcedo, the general manager of Coopunión, Yudelka Jiménez, underscored the importance of the cooperative system in fostering economic development and helping informal businesses build capacity.

Additionally, COOP Manoguayabo celebrated its 80th anniversary by formalizing a cooperation agreement with CBM Prospección, SRL. This partnership, through CBM Jobs, aims to promote youth employment and professional training in the Dominican Republic by connecting young people with the cooperative financial sector.
