Dominican court ends criminal case against Spanish businessman Bonet Gambín

The Second Chamber of the Municipal Peace Court for Municipal Affairs of the National District in Santo Domingo declared the criminal action against Spanish citizen José Francisco Bonet Gambín and the company Adecus Business S.A. extinguished. The court ruled that the proceedings had exceeded the maximum time limit set by the Dominican Penal Procedural Code and that the delays could not be attributed to the defendants.

The judgment, issued on 20 July 2026, concluded a litigation that had lasted more than 16 years, originating in 2008. Defense attorney José Martínez Hoepelman said the decision enforces constitutional guarantees of due process and the right to a reasonable trial period.
