Jorge Frías, a prominent Dominican Republic deputy for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, due to health complications at the Cedimat medical center.

Frías represented the 2nd constituency of Santo Domingo Este. His long political career included serving as a councilman for the National District between 1994 and 2002, and serving multiple terms as a deputy under both the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and the PRM. His legislative work included proposals regarding digital assets, healthcare coverage, and social infrastructure.

Following his death, the PRM has 30 days to submit a list of three candidates to fill the vacancy, according to Article 77 of the Constitution. Official funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at the Blandino funeral home, with official ceremonies at the National District Mayor's office and the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday.
