Dominican entertainment media shifts toward panel-based commentary

The traditional model of entertainment journalism, characterized by investigation and interviews, is shifting toward a format where public figures discuss other figures. This evolution is driven by social media, radio, and television, turning news into a continuous cycle of opinion, reaction, and controversy.

This panel-based structure, which uses a host and various participants to debate specific topics, is a long-standing international format. In Latin America, programs like Mexico’s ‘Ventaneando’ have successfully utilized this model since 1996. In this new paradigm, a news item serves as raw material for ongoing conversation rather than a finished product; a fact is reported, panelists offer opinions, an artist reacts, and that reaction becomes the next news cycle.

Dominican Republic is currently experiencing this transformation. While the country has a strong tradition of variety shows, interviews, and live conversation through programs such as ‘El Show del Mediodía’ and ‘Sábado de Corporán’, the media landscape is increasingly adopting this conversational and reactionary approach to celebrity coverage.
