Dominican ex‑prosecutor Jean Alain Rodríguez denounces judicial abuses
Former Dominican Republic Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, accused of misappropriating more than 6 billion pesos between 2016 and 2020, released a lengthy document alleging “abuses” in the justice system surrounding his case. He warned that “no press conference should replace a sentence” and condemned pressure on judges, lawyers, and other professionals, calling for strict adherence to the rule of law.
Rodríguez criticized the use of criminal proceedings to affect a person’s assets, professional activity, family relations, or personal freedom before a final judgment, describing tactics such as intimidation of clients, threats to financial institutions, and the manipulation of visa status. He said the investigation is weakening democracy when it seeks to impose consequences not ordered by a court.
The Second Collegiate Court of the National District rejected a request to nullify the trial and scheduled the continuation of the proceedings for 22 July 2026, ordering the parties to avoid using nicknames in reference to the case.
