Dominican judges to rule on Jet Set tragedy and Coral corruption cases

On Monday, judges of the First Court of Instruction in Santo Domingo will announce whether the Espaillat brothers, owners of the Jet Set nightclub, will face a full trial for the April 8, 2025 roof collapse that killed dozens. The magistrate will assess the prosecution’s allegation of involuntary homicide tied to alleged structural negligence and the defense’s claim of hidden construction faults.

In a separate hearing the same day, the First Collegiate Tribunal of the National District will deliver its decision on the Coral and Coral 5G corruption cases. Prosecutors allege that officials, including several generals, a colonel and a pastor, siphoned more than RD$4.5 billion from the state. The indictment seeks lengthy prison terms and the seizure of assets, while the defense maintains innocence. Both proceedings could lead to lengthy trials and significant penalties.
