Dominican Liberation Party says October poll gauges support, not presidential nomination
Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) secretary‑general Johnny Pujols clarified that the internal consultation scheduled for 18 October is intended to measure the level of public sympathy for the party’s presidential aspirants, not to select the candidate for the 2028 elections. He said the party will choose its nominee within the legal timetable and that the poll does not contravene electoral law.
Pujols emphasized the right of parties to manage internal affairs, noting that the leadership, militants and party direction will use the results to guide strategy and maintain unity. He added, “Nosotros no vamos a elegir el candidato presidencial este año; lo vamos a elegir en los plazos de ley,” and reiterated that “El PLD es un partido de una tradición democrática fuerte.” The party also indicated it may consider alliances under favorable conditions while presenting its own presidential ticket.
