Dominican media figures address social and personal conflicts
In the Dominican Republic, communicator Jary Ramírez has publicly criticized actress and comedian Cheddy García. Ramírez accused García of attempting to demand media support and free promotion without reciprocity. He noted that while he supported her during her early career at Telemicro in 1997 and through various professional disputes, he has not received gratitude for his loyalty. Ramírez further stated he would not allow García to dictate his public commentary or his choice of whom to defend.
Separately, communicator Ricardo Nieves addressed the distinction between racism and migration control. Nieves described racism as a “disease” that leads to exclusion and violence by viewing others with contempt. However, he argued that concerns regarding the regulation of migratory flows and the ability of authorities to supervise territorial entries and exits should not be conflated with discriminatory attitudes. Nieves referenced his historical research on Dominican-Haitian relations to contextualize the ongoing debate over sovereignty and social integration.
