Dominican Medical College calls for 24-hour national strike

The Dominican Medical College (CMD) has called for a 24-hour national strike on Tuesday, October 13, to demand responses to several professional and labor grievances. Key demands include seniority incentives for doctors with over 15 years of service, payment for on-site and distance shifts in Samaná and other regions, the creation of new job positions, and adherence to labor hour agreements.

The CMD also highlighted the need for improved security in hospitals to protect both staff and patients. Additionally, the union criticized the management of hospital infrastructure projects, specifically citing lack of scheduling at the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital and unfinished works at the Padre Billini Hospital.

Regarding legal matters, the CMD expressed concerns over the SeNaSa 2.0 case, calling for respect for the dignity of medical professionals and the presumption of innocence during investigations. While the strike will affect most services, the CMD confirmed that emergency rooms and critical care units will remain operational throughout the 24-hour period. Patients with scheduled appointments are advised to contact their respective health centers to confirm if services will proceed or be rescheduled.

Separately, social organizations in the Duarte province have announced a 48-hour general strike for October 19 and 20 due to insufficient responses from authorities regarding community demands.
