Dominican merengue típico artists gain momentum in NY and Santo Domingo
Dominican merengue típico is seeing significant activity both internationally and domestically. In New York, the group The New Flow Típico has gained popularity in radio and clubs with their recent single, ‘¿Qué pasará?’, a merengue adaptation of a Camilo Sesto ballad. Led by manager Luis Miguel Barrientos, the group features musicians including Nelson Antonio Ortiz and Dionny De Jesús Rodríguez, and has established a presence in the Cibao region of the Dominican Republic.
In Santo Domingo, a major concert titled ‘El Fiestazo de las Mercedes’ is scheduled for September 23 at the Hard Rock Cafe. The event, produced by Bebeto TV, will feature a collaboration between prominent exponents of the new generation of merengue típico: El Grupaso, Ebenezer Guerra, and El Rubio del Acordeón.
