Dominican Ministry of Education presents ‘Mariposas de Acero’ musical
The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Education, in coordination with the Mirabal Sisters Foundation, presented the musical ‘Mariposas de Acero’ to students from 18 regional educational centers. The production, written by Waddys Jáquez, serves as part of the commemorative activities for the centenary of the birth of Minerva Mirabal.
Performed at the National Theater, the musical utilizes theater, dance, and technology to narrate the lives of Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa Mirabal. To engage younger audiences, the soundtrack incorporates contemporary genres such as rap, trap, jazz, and Caribbean rhythms.
Ancell Scheker, Vice Minister of Technical and Pedagogical Affairs, stated that the work aims to inspire youth by reflecting on the sisters' struggle for a free Dominican Republic based on the rule of law and social justice. Minou Tavárez Mirabal, daughter of Minerva Mirabal and president of the foundation, emphasized the importance of connecting new generations to the historical legacy of the sisters through this modern artistic approach.
