Dominican Republic prioritizes national Mipymes for social program procurement

President Luis Abinader has issued Decree 672-26, mandating that public procurement for social programs in the Dominican Republic be directed exclusively to national industrial micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (Mipymes). This measure targets programs involving poverty relief, food security, clothing, school supplies, and health services. The decree requires that products be agro-industrial or manufactured within Dominican territory and purchased without unauthorized intermediation. Participating companies must hold an industrial registry from Proindustria and Mipyme certification from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Mipymes (MICM).

In related economic developments, the MICM announced the arrival of ‘Talent Up,’ a regional initiative by the Inter-American Development Bank in partnership with Google Cloud and Cisco. The program will provide 15,000 free scholarships to develop digital skills for Industry 5.0. Additionally, the National Association of Companies and Industries Herrera (Aneih) and the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport) signed a memorandum of understanding to boost trade, identifying $2.556 billion in potential Guatemalan exports to the Dominican Republic.
