Dominican municipal leaders enter training pact amid local spending scrutiny
The Dominican Municipal League (LMD) has signed an agreement with the Global Institute of Higher Studies in Social Sciences (IGlobal) to train municipal officials in territorial planning and sustainable urban development. The initiative, signed by IGlobal rector Josefina Pimentel and LMD Secretary General Víctor D’Aza, aims to improve urban management, waste handling, and environmental protection.
In a separate matter regarding municipal oversight, the administration of Piedra Blanca, led by Mayor Pedro Contreras Burgos, faces criticism over the purchase of unsuitable land for a municipal market. Despite technical warnings from the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED) regarding the steep topography of the site, the municipality proceeded with the acquisition. The mayor indicated that rectifying the terrain's deficiencies could cost approximately 20 million pesos.
