Dominican national extradited to Chile for murder

A Dominican national has been extradited from the Dominican Republic to Chile to face charges of aggravated homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. The individual is accused of murdering a 25-year-old Venezuelan man on July 18, 2025, near Vega Central in the Recoleta commune.

According to prosecutors, the suspect approached the victim and shot him in the head before firing two additional shots while the victim was on the ground. The investigation suggests the attack was motivated by the victim's relationship with the suspect's former partner. Following the crime, the suspect fled Chile through an unauthorized border crossing in August 2025.

The extradition was the result of coordinated efforts between Carabineros de Chile, Interpol, and Dominican authorities. Upon arrival, a Chilean guarantee court ordered pretrial detention, citing the suspect as a danger to society and a flight risk. The court has set a 60-day period to conclude the investigation.
