Dominican national fighting in Ukraine seeks return to front despite family pleas

Juan Carlos Ávila Espaillat, a 28-year-old Dominican national fighting on the Russian side of the conflict in Ukraine, has expressed his intention to return to the front lines once he recovers from a current injury. Through social media, Ávila shared that he possesses numerous videos of his comrades and expressed sadness regarding the memories associated with them.

In response to his situation, Ávila’s family has appealed to Dominican President Luis Abinader to intervene. His brother, Carlos Ávila, requested that the government and the Dominican Embassy in Russia take action to facilitate his return to the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) has issued a warning to citizens regarding suspicious job offers in Russia. The ministry cautioned against employment proposals that may lead to involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, urging the public to verify the legitimacy of employers and contract conditions.
