Dominican Republic prosecutors charge 13 people and 5 companies in $5M fraud case

The Dominican Republic's Ministerio Público has filed formal charges against 13 individuals and five companies following the dismantling of a criminal network through Operation Discovery 3.0. The indictment, filed before the Santiago Instruction Court, accuses the group of electronic fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.

According to the investigation, which involved cooperation from the FBI, the network allegedly defrauded 141 victims in the United States, resulting in estimated losses of US$5 million. The group utilized methods such as clandestine call centers, social engineering, identity theft, intimidation, sextortion, and false representations of authorities or family members.

The accused companies include INVERDOSA, JLNG Terracell, Rodríguez Vásquez MK Comercial, INVERMEG, and Qemert Pro Technology. Authorities report that stolen funds were transferred to the Dominican Republic via bank transfers, remittances, and cryptocurrencies, before being integrated into the economy through real estate, vehicles, and various business operations.
