Dominican officials face legal action over unpaid pension adjustments

Dominican Republic's Minister of Finance and Economy, Magín Javier Díaz, and the acting Director General of Retirements and Pensions, Juan Rosa, face potential criminal and patrimonial legal actions. Attorney Oliver Moisés Batía Burgos has issued formal notices of non-compliance regarding court rulings that mandate pension readjustments and retroactive payments dating back to December 2020.

The legal claims represent four separate cases involving former public employees: Carlos Jeremías Santana Montás, Leocadio Valentín Lebrón Jiménez, Juan Bautista Moreno Castro, and Manuel Emilio Pérez Suárez. As of September 30, 2026, the total amount claimed in retroactive differences exceeds RD$53 million.

Batía stated that the state is accumulating a monthly debt of RD$743,136 in retroactive amounts, in addition to a court-ordered 1% monthly interest. If the established deadlines for payment are not met, the attorney indicated that legal proceedings could be brought before the Supreme Court of Justice for the Minister and the Palace of Justice for the Director of Retirements and Pensions.
