Dominican opposition parties intensify critiques of PRM government
Opposition political forces in the Dominican Republic are intensifying their critiques of the ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) and President Luis Abinader as the country moves toward the 2028 elections.
Former President Danilo Medina, leader of the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD), is spearheading efforts to rebuild the party's structure following its decline to third place in the 2024 elections. Medina has been actively recruiting new members and attempting to prevent the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) from absorbing the PLD's political base. The PLD has maintained a consistent presence in the public agenda through weekly press conferences and various party spokespersons.
Simultaneously, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, president of the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), has also criticized the current administration, describing the PRM's management as a period of deep regression and corruption. While the PLD and PRD act separately, both organizations are focused on challenging the current government's direction and preparing for future electoral contests.
