Dominican pig producers protest against international meat imports

The Association of Pig Producers of the Dominican Republic (APROPORC RD) has announced a meeting in Villa Tapia to address what they describe as a crisis threatening the national pork industry. The association's president, Julián Abud Martínez, accused national authorities of facilitating the bankruptcy of local producers by granting permits to international meat companies.

According to APROPORC RD, the influx of international products is causing massive financial losses for local farmers, many of whom are reportedly facing bankruptcy. The association claims that this situation is leading to widespread unemployment for workers in pig farms across the country, including the Cibao region. The producers are calling on the government to protect national production against what they characterize as unfair competition from foreign actors.
