Dominican Police arrest three suspects in community leader's murder
The Dominican National Police have arrested three men suspected of involvement in the killing of community leader José Frank Valerio. The shooting occurred on August 14 in Hato Nuevo, Los Alcarrizos.
Authorities identified the detainees as Saulo Keli Núñez, known as ‘Pelota’, and Wander Javier Piña del Pozo. Eddy Manuel Arias Recio, also known as ‘Tata’ or ‘Capullo’, was also taken into custody via a search warrant. Investigators are looking into allegations that RD$50,000 was paid to carry out the execution.
Police analysis of security footage showed two individuals on a black motorcycle attacking Valerio while he was at a motoconcho stop. Three other suspects, including José Enrique Corniel Jerez, Fraudi Antonio Rosario Castillo, and Daivy Red, remain at large.
