Puerto Plata to host 29 cruise arrivals in August and add new international flights

The Dominican Republic’s northern port of Puerto Plata will receive 29 cruise ship calls in August, with 15 arrivals scheduled at the Amber Cove terminal and 14 at Taíno Bay. Major cruise lines such as Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises will dock, and the busiest days will be August 5, 18 and 19, when three ships will be in port simultaneously. Executive director of the Dominican Port Authority, Jean Luis Rodríguez, said the schedule demonstrates continued confidence from leading cruise operators in the country’s ports.

At the same time, Puerto Plata’s international airport is expanding its air connectivity. Copa Airlines has increased its Panama‑Puerto Plata service to four weekly flights year‑round. Air Transat will launch a seasonal weekly route from London, Ontario, and WestJet will add a seasonal weekly service from Winnipeg, both beginning 15 December. The airport, operated by AERODOM (VINCI Airports), has been recognized four times with the Airport Service Quality award for excellence in the Latin America and Caribbean region. These developments, occurring during the low cruise‑season, aim to boost tourism and economic activity on the north coast.
