President Luis Abinader rolls out infrastructure, water and education projects in Samaná
Dominican President Luis Abinader led a series of public‑service visits in the province of Samaná, unveiling new infrastructure and social‑program initiatives. At the “Primero Tú” inclusion event in the Wilmore sector, more than 3,000 residents were served, 35 homes were repaired, four new houses built and 5,000 food rations distributed. The administration highlighted major works including the construction of a new port at Arroyo Barril, remodeling of the Samaná city port, road improvements, land‑titling and the removal of an old hospital.
Abinader also announced a water‑supply drive, noting over RD$1 billion invested in the sector in the past six years and a further RD$1.8 billion earmarked to expand the provincial aqueduct and complete a sewer system in Las Terrenas within two months. Repairs are underway to restore full service in the Sánchez and Santa Bárbara de Samaná systems.
Sports facilities received upgrades, with a municipal play field refurbished in Samaná and a baseball stadium renovated. In education, the president announced scholarships for the Instituto Tecnológico de Las Américas, the inauguration of a new school in Las Terrenas, expansion of the UASD campus and the provision of laptops to high‑performing students.
