Dominican prison service reports over 50 corruption-related removals
The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) reported that during the first half of this year, more than 50 instances of payroll exclusions, legal proceedings, and arrests of employees accused of corruption occurred.
The institution stated that it will not accept inmates issuing orders to directors or commanders. The DGSPC warned that covert corruption structures within the prison system will continue to be dismantled and that any disturbances organized by these groups will be met with force.
Officials noted that the fight against corruption is a long-term challenge due to its historical and structural nature. The agency intends to continue monitoring staff behavior to clean the institution “area by area and center by center,” emphasizing that rehabilitation through education and mandatory work can only be achieved when legitimate authorities maintain full control of the facilities.
