Carolina Mejía rallies teachers and claims lead as PRM prepares convention

Carolina Mejía, the presidential hopeful of the Dominican Republic's Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM), swore in the National Teachers Command C28, a coalition of more than 1,500 educators, at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. She pledged that teachers will occupy a central role in any future government, stating, “My commitment to you is not only better teaching conditions but better living conditions.”

Former president Hipólito Mejía later said that EDUardo “Yayo” Sanz Lovatón had acted hastily and asserted that Carolina enjoys a 70‑30 advantage in the PRM internal race, declaring she is “walking at the pace of winners.”

The PRM will hold its XXIII Extraordinary National Convention on Sunday at the Marriott Piantini, where delegates will review proposed amendments to the party’s statutes as part of an internal reorganization ahead of upcoming leadership elections.
