Dominican PRM Party Faces Internal Dispute Over Secretary General Appointment

Lawyer and former vice‑chancellor Carlos Gabriel García used X to condemn a proposal to name the son of a leading presidential hopeful as secretary general of the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM). He argued the move would undermine the impartiality of the party’s second‑most important post, risk internal divisions and jeopardise the PRM’s goal of staying in power beyond 2028.

At the same time, deputy Rafael Pérez, who previously served with Fuerza del Pueblo, announced his switch to the PRM. Pérez said the party guarantees democracy and promotes generational renewal, and he praised President Luis Abinader’s development vision for Pedernales and the southern region. He thanked PRM leader José Ignacio Paliza and other party officials for their welcome.
