Dominican Red Cross launches national rescuers training camp

The Dominican Red Cross (CRD) has launched the First National Rescuers Championship in the Duarte province. Held at the local branch headquarters in San Francisco de Macorís, the camp aims to strengthen response capacities and provide international certification for rescuers.

CRD President Dr. Miguel Sanz Flores stated that the initiative is necessary to refresh the skills of responders facing increasing threats from climate change, including hurricanes, tropical storms, floods, and landslides, as well as human-caused emergencies like traffic accidents.

General Director Blaurio Alcántara emphasized the need for support from both public and private sectors to protect vulnerable communities. Altagracia Capellan, Director of Risk Management, noted that rapid urban growth and climate change are increasing local vulnerability to disasters. The event is supported by the Emergency Operations Center.
