Dominican Republic 9-1-1 system adopts robotics for emergency response
The Dominican Republic's National Emergency and Security 9-1-1 System is integrating advanced robotics to modernize its emergency response capabilities. The initiative aims to reduce the risk to first responders by deploying technology to evaluate high-risk scenarios before human personnel, such as firefighters and police, enter dangerous areas.
The new capability, known as F1RVLA1S (First Intelligent Robotic Vehicle for Life-saving Assistance and Incident Support), is built upon the Spot robotic platform developed by Boston Dynamics. This technology is designed to navigate complex environments and can be equipped with cameras and sensors to provide real-time images and data from hazardous locations.
Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza stated that the goal is to use technology to reduce uncertainty and improve decision-making. The robots will be utilized in scenarios involving structural collapses, hazardous material incidents, industrial accidents, and search and rescue operations where human access is restricted or life-threatening.
