Dominican Republic addresses pig farming support and forest fires

In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Agriculture has launched a work plan to support national pig farmers. Agriculture Minister Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme met with the board of the Dominican Federation of Pig Farmers (FEDOPORC) to discuss market conditions, production trends, and challenges such as producer pricing and import dynamics. The goal is to strengthen production, ensure sustainability, and maintain pork availability for consumers through expanded collaborative sessions.

Separately, authorities are working to control a forest fire in the Pelempito-Aceitillar area of the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park. The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reported that thermal activity is currently concentrated near the edge of the humid forest, which acts as a natural barrier. While light drizzle has increased humidity and aided control efforts, officials stated that more significant rainfall would be required for a decisive impact. Firefighting teams remain deployed to complete defense lines and monitor for secondary hotspots.
