Dominican Republic advances delayed school construction under President Abinader

The Dominican Republic’s Directorate of School Infrastructure (DIE) reports rapid progress on two long‑stalled school projects. In Santo Domingo Este, the new Escuela Básica Cancino Adentro I, halted for more than 14 years, is now over 75 % complete and on track to open for the 2026‑2027 school year. The school will house more than 800 students across 22 classrooms, a cafeteria, sports fields and civic spaces, fulfilling the government’s “Aulas 24/7‑365” plan. Engineer Jimmy Adames said the work resumed after President Luis Abinader’s directive following a site visit by DIE director Roberto Herrera.

In the border community of Guayajayuco, El Ías Piña, the Liceo Víctor Esteban Lorenzo Galicia is also in its final phase after a 12‑year abandonment. The five‑classroom high school, equipped with a laboratory, cafeteria and sports facilities, is expected to be delivered by August 2026 for more than 150 students and the surrounding 2,000‑person community. Contractor Leonel Lara and DIE officials emphasized that the project follows the same “Aulas 24/7‑365” continuity‑of‑state criterion set by President Abinader.
