Dominican Republic advances education overhaul with AI‑focused curriculum and digital school certifications

Education Minister Rafael Santos Badía said the Dominican Republic must undergo a deep transformation of its school system, creating a regionalized curriculum that prepares students for the challenges of artificial intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution. He presented the conclusions of a national consultation that visited 24 provinces and involved more than 3,000 citizens, emphasizing the need to move beyond traditional reforms toward a structural overhaul that aligns education with regional economic realities.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education, together with UNICEF and the Spanish development agency AECID, announced that four Dominican schools received the first Silver level of the national Digital Education Certification (Codice), while six schools earned Bronze. The certification recognises the integration of technology in teaching, learning and school management and directly benefits around 400 teachers and 6,000‑7,000 students, marking a concrete step in the country’s broader digital transformation strategy.
