Dominican Republic advances infrastructure and irrigation projects in Azua province
Senator Lía Díaz inspected several government‑backed works in Pueblo Viejo, Azua, accompanied by Mayor Víctor Figuereo. The visit included a new municipal school, a multi‑use roof for sports and community events, and the upcoming issuance of property titles to dozens of families.
The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) is extending the Azua II irrigation system, adding a 10.9‑km canal network that will link to the under‑construction Block III reservoir with a 20,000 m³ capacity. The expansion aims to provide reliable water to more than 47,000 farms across Estebanía, Las Charcas and Hatillo, boosting agricultural productivity and national food security. The broader project already comprises three completed phases with six reservoirs holding a combined 509,090 m³, and plans for eight additional reservoirs adding 203,000 m³ of storage.
