Dominican Republic air traffic grows as Latin American markets decline

Air passenger traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean saw its first monthly year-on-year contraction since 2021, falling 2.3% in June to 37.3 million passengers, according to data from the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA).

While major regional markets such as Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia experienced declines—collectively transporting 517,000 fewer passengers than in June 2025—the Dominican Republic saw a 6.1% increase, adding 99,000 passengers. Panama also showed growth, with an 10.9% increase.

Specific market declines included Mexico, which saw a reduction of 293,000 passengers, and Argentina, which recorded a 10.1% drop. Despite the June downturn, the first half of the year remained positive, with the region moving 242.8 million passengers, a 3.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
