Dominican Republic Ambassador visits İzmir Mayor Cemil Tugay

Elvis Antonio Alam Lora, the Dominican Republic Ambassador to Ankara, visited İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay to discuss strengthening bilateral relations. The meeting focused on developing mutual trade, tourism, and cultural cooperation through organized events and reciprocal visits.

During the visit, Ambassador Lora highlighted his affinity for İzmir, comparing it to Beirut and Alexandria as significant Mediterranean cities. He also noted an increased interest in Turkish culture following exposure to Turkish television series during the pandemic.

Mayor Tugay congratulated Recep Özekinci on his appointment as the Dominican Republic’s Honorary Consul in İzmir. Ambassador Lora described this appointment as a significant milestone for the relationship between Türkiye, İzmir, and the Dominican Republic. The discussions also touched upon the potential for organizing mutual fairs and activities to bolster economic and cultural ties.
