Dominican Republic analysts debate construction wages and sports

Analysts on the program Pantalla Abierta recently discussed several national issues in the Dominican Republic, focusing on the construction sector, labor migration, and sports development.

Regarding the construction industry, the panel addressed the impact of Resolution 04-26 from the National Wage Commission. Discussions highlighted a shift in the workforce, noting that many local workers are moving toward roles like motorcycle taxi driving, while Haitian citizens have increasingly filled roles in masonry. Experts suggested that wage adjustments should aim to attract local workers back to the sector and promote technological integration.

In the sports sector, the panel reviewed upcoming commitments for national youth baseball and volleyball teams. In local winter baseball, it was noted that the Gigantes del Cibao have announced a coaching staff led by Miguel Cairo. Additionally, the conversation touched upon the management of the Felix Sanchez athletics track, emphasizing the need for organized schedules to ensure high-performance athletes have disciplined access to facilities.
