Dominican Republic and Colombia sign judicial cooperation agreement
The Attorney General's Office of the Dominican Republic and the Attorney General's Office of Colombia have signed a judicial cooperation agreement to establish a Joint Investigation Team (ECI). This initiative is designed to strengthen international legal tools in the fight against transnational organized crime, specifically targeting human trafficking for sexual exploitation and the illicit smuggling of migrants.
The agreement is framed under the United Nations Palermo Convention and has received support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). By implementing this team, both nations aim to coordinate investigations directly, exchange information and evidence, and execute joint actions against criminal structures operating between the two countries. This cooperation is intended to expedite investigative processes and enhance criminal prosecution regarding economic crimes, corruption, and human rights violations.
