Dominican Republic and Haiti coordinate on border security and GSF support

Foreign Ministers from the Dominican Republic and Haiti met in Dajabón to establish a new bilateral roadmap focused on border governance, security, and economic cooperation. The discussions between Víctor “Ito” Bisonó and Raina Forbin covered several critical pillars, including migration management, combating contraband and illicit financial networks, judicial cooperation, and the potential expansion of commercial air connectivity.

A major point of consensus was the need for international support for the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), established under UN Security Council Resolution 2793. Both nations emphasized the urgency of the mission’s full deployment and mandate renewal to help Haitian authorities neutralize gang control and rebuild state institutions. Currently, approximately 450 agents from Chad are deployed as part of the planned 5,500-person mission.

In a separate diplomatic effort in Addis Ababa, Minister Forbin called on African nations and the international community to strengthen support for Haiti’s security, economic reactivation, and the organization of elections. She highlighted the importance of the strategic alliance with African countries and urged the mobilization of financial and logistical resources necessary to fulfill the GSF mandate. Additionally, the Dominican Republic expressed intentions to resume consular operations in Haiti once local security conditions allow.
