Dominican Republic arrests Spanish national in international drug trafficking operation
In the Dominican Republic, authorities arrested Jonathan Yera Pozo, a Spanish national wanted for drug trafficking and money laundering. The arrest, part of international operation ‘Fast Lap’, was conducted by the Ministerio Público and the DNCD with support from the DEA, Spanish Police, and Europol. Yera Pozo faces extradition to Spain.
In South America, the Empresa Portuaria Arica and the Puerto Seco de Oruro signed a cooperation agreement to improve logistics and supply chain integration between Chile and Bolivia, aiming to boost the competitiveness of Bolivian exports through Pacific ports.
Other regional developments include the Dominican National Drug Council (CND) conducting a civic prevention workshop in Hato Mayor to address substance abuse. Additionally, discussions continue regarding the Dominican prison system, where approximately 65.5% of the 25,878 inmates are held under preventive detention without a final sentence.
