Dominican Republic and U.S. Southern Command provide free medical services in La Vega

Misión Amistad 2026 medical cooperation free healthcare Dominican Republic U.S. Southern Command

The Dominican Ministry of Health and the U.S. Southern Command conducted the ‘Misión Amistad 2026’ medical mission, providing free healthcare services to approximately 1,900 people in La Vega.

Taking place from August 3 to August 14, 2026, the initiative utilized the Dr. Luis Morillo King University Regional Hospital and the Dra. Almida García Municipal Hospital. Patients received consultations and services in various specialties, including general and family medicine, dentistry, ophthalmology, pediatrics, psychology, and dermatology, as well as health prevention guidance.

The closing ceremony was attended by Dominican Minister of Public Health Víctor Atallah, U.S. Ambassador Leah Campos, La Vega Governor Luisa Jiménez, and Brigadier General Tara Nolan of the U.S. Southern Command. Minister Atallah emphasized the commitment to continuing such sanitary cooperation initiatives to improve healthcare access and strengthen bilateral relations.
