Dominican Republic Army launches youth sports program

The Association of Wives of Officers of the Dominican Republic Army (ADEOERD) and the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) have launched ‘Formación Deportiva ERD’, a permanent sports training program. Led by Staly García de Arias and Major General Jimmy Arias Grullón, the initiative aims to promote discipline, values, and family integration among the children of military members.

The program will initially serve 315 children and adolescents aged 6 to 14. Participants will receive training in seven Olympic and universal disciplines: baseball, basketball, volleyball, swimming, chess, athletics, and football. Instruction will be provided by a specialized team of eight coaches and six assistants using institutional sports facilities.

A key component of the program is the ‘Charlas Sabatinas’ (Saturday Talks), where sports legends and professional athletes will serve as mentors. Supported by numerous Pan American gold medalists and Major League Baseball players, the program focuses on the social well-being and athletic development of the youth involved.
