Dominican Republic authorities monitor reservoir levels and weather

The Dam and Reservoir Operation Committee (COPRE) held its weekly meeting in Santo Domingo to monitor water availability and distribution across the country's reservoirs. The inter-institutional coordination aims to manage resources effectively in response to reduced rainfall.

Officials from the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID), the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) evaluated recent rainfall patterns and storage levels. INDOMET Director Gloria Ceballos noted that authorities are monitoring a meteorological drought following a precipitation deficit between May and July.

Meteorologists are specifically tracking a weather disturbance that could become Tropical Storm Dolly, which may bring much-needed rain to the Caribbean. Additionally, officials noted that a strengthening of El Niño in September and October could reduce the likelihood of tropical cyclones directly affecting the country during the 2026 season.
