Dominican Republic authorities seize 18 electric meters in Villa Mella

Two contractors for the electricity distributor EDEEste, Ramón Alberto Morla Pimentel and Jesús Manuel García Cuevas, are facing judicial measures after being caught with 18 electric meters in their vehicle. The incident occurred on October 21, 2026, during an operation in Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte, involving the National Police and EDEEste security personnel.

Authorities reported that the suspects were using a white Shineray X30S minibus, which was labeled with the electric company's branding to facilitate the theft. Upon inspection, EDEEste identified that seven of the recovered meters had irregular records, including being listed as unlocated or having prior formal theft reports.

A court has imposed coercive measures on the individuals, including a requirement to pay a RD$25,000 economic guarantee each, periodic appearances before authorities, and a travel ban while the judicial process continues.
